I am using 8/2 cotton to make huck lace napkins from a pattern that calls for 10/2 cotton. It is sett at 24 epi. Can I use the same sett with my 8/2 cotton or should I adjust?

They will be stiff as a board at 24 EPI. I would open them up to 18 EPI. Hope this helps.

I am using 16/2 linen for the huck sampler using the 12 different treadlings. It seems a bit stiff and the PPI is between 18 and 20. I am trying to beat lightly. Can you advise as to whether or not the cloth has to be balanced at 15 epi?

I sett it at 16 and pretty much kept to 16 ppi. I just always watch the negative space in cloth rather than the weft pick.
Maybe it was 17 in some places but I was always aiming for 16. Try to watch the empty space between the picks :)
Jane, Thank you for that advice. Will watch the negative space. Also want to tell you that the time you take to show all the treadling variations in the cloth and then the weaving at the loom really help. I was a bit nervous about weaving on linen and being able to figure out the treadling. But your system of tie-ups and patterns really works. I find myself actually weaving right along.
One other question, it seems that the tension across the warp is a bit flimsy in some spots. Is that because in the areas of the lace or weft or warp floats the tension is less.? Just wondering. The selvages are pretty good, so I carry on. Thanks again.

I'm glad it is all making sense :) Yes, those true canvas spots do seem a tad flimsy but they work themselves out. It stabilizes so much in the wash too.
