Multiple warp chains

Hi more organized weaver!
How do you label your warp chains if you have more than one chain (warp board pegs not long enough) so you know how to spread out on the raddle?

I’ve dressed two separate sample tamp projects and go figure, each one has at least one section that is out of order. I think that I labeled well but… gremlins.

Oh dear, don’t you just loath gremlins :). I would mark them 1,2,3 and then tie a little coloured string at the edge of the cross of the first one, then continue on in sequence with the next part and put a the same colour string at the beginning edge at the cross...then you know that those two coloured strings need to butt up against each other. If you are making it in 3 sections use a different coloured string at the end of the 2nd one and the same colour for the beginning of the 3rd section, knowing you need to butt those 2 colours up on the rod when you put them on....etc..etc. That should help alot. Easy Peasy :).....no gremlins can interfere with that.

Thank you Jane! I am going to write this on my board of reminders. It makes great and easy sense.
Now to teach the gremlins how to read and not believe that they will remember which side is left.

Having made the same mistake in the past, I now slide each warp chain onto the lease sticks as I finish it, the lease sticks being held together with binder rings so the chains don't slide off. Also, this is one less step to perform later. Gale

Well that is a brilliant idea. To be honest, I have a big honking warping mill and never have to make my warps in sections...so I was just guessing at the answer...too funny...I like your idea Gale...less work...super easy peasy :). The more easy peasy, the better.

Ooh, I will try the binder rings and slide as well as marking with numbers and colors... just in case... gremlins.

I know this forum chain is old, but.... I always tie the cross with the same color thread on the top. My choice is red, only for the top of the cross. Then I can label the warp chains 1, 2, 3 etc, but always know which should be 'up'. I like the idea of going directly to the lease sticks. Nice!

I use a short rod and slide it on as soon as a part is made. String through the centre that I can tie together with a nice bow to make sure they stay on the rod. I can stick the lease sticks in once I'm ready to get it on the loom.
