I'm only on Season 2 right now and I am trying to remember if Jane mentioned anywhere about using or not using a temple. I've been using her technique so far to beat on an open shed and haven't had any issues with draw-in, but I've never done waffle weave or huck on my floor loom yet. I have a huck and waffle weave pattern that calls for using a temple and waxing the floating selvedge threads to prevent draw-in for cotton dishtowels, but I'm wondering if that's necessary if I continue to beat on an open shed. I don't know if this is the proper thread to post this, so if there's a video that addresses this, feel free to let me know. Thanks!
Hi Rhoda, I do not use a temple. Waffle weave is going to draw-in because of the nature of the structure....it is a very 3 dimensional weave structure so I just let it do its thing in the weaving. If you beat on an open shed and let it take what it needs you will be just fine. I’ve done a lot of huck and waffle together...we have a kit called Huckleberry Waffle and no one has had a problem weaving that....other than they wish their warp was longer :)
Thanks, Jane! I will save myself the bucks it costs to buy one of those things (and the time it takes to continually move it) and use it for yarn instead--maybe your Huckleberry Waffle kit!! :)
