I've been happily weaving away on my Ashford Table Loom since last November. I'm in the middle of weaving a baby blanket that I saw in the most recent Weft magazine.
The pattern calls for 8/2 cotton for warp and tabby pick, and doubled 8/2 cotton for the pattern.
The sett is 16 ep. The PPI in the pattern is 16 ppi for the tabby and 16ppi for the pattern. However, I'm only getting 12-13 PPI at most. I'm beating as hard as I can without damaging my loom. I slacked off the tension and got close to 14ppi, but no more.
I'm wondering if this is the closest it is possible to get to the correct PPI on a table loom, given that it is lighter than a floor loom? Or if there is anything else I should try? The pattern recommends using a temple, which I don't own, but I don't know if a temple would make much difference, as I don't tend to get a huge amount of draw in when I weave, and beat on an open shed.
