Hi all,

After lots of research, I have decided to buy a David III 70. While I would prefer a 90, I don't have the space for it.

I am a new member of JST and new to weaving on a floor loom. I have narrowed down my choices to a Baby Wolf & a David III 70. I was able to try out a Baby Wolf for a few months. But I found that it was too low for my height (~5' 9.5"). My knees kept hitting the cloth going on to the beam. Aspects of what I learned about the David really appealed to me like easy treadling, ability to get closer to the castle for dressing and built in raddle. Feedback from weavers who have owned or worked on both leaned to preferring the David. One weaver reported that she added height extenders to her Wolf but still had issues.

There are no local dealers in the Coachella Valley or Southern California. And pleas out to local guilds to find owners of David looms turned out to be unsuccessful. So I'm taking a leap of faith that the geometry of the David loom will be a better fit for my height, especially since the cloth beam sits higher on the David versus the Wolf.

Eugene Textile is having a 15% off sale starting on Oct 1. Which will provide a significant cost savings that I can't pass up. I have 2 questions before I make the purchase.

1. Has anyone here who own a David and is approximately my height have any issues with not having enough legroom?
2. It looks like Jane's videos that I've watched so far have been aimed towards wider looms, like weaving a mohair "blankie" and changing a set within the same warp. Will I have a less than optimal experience as the seasons progress since I will potentially have a loom with a 27" max weaving width?

I have the 90” david. I sold my 110” spring 1 which I regret selling. It was a stretch physically but that occasional ability to make a wide textile would have been great especially if you factor in draw in and shrinkage.

Go as wide as you can, imho. You can always weave smaller.
