I'm making a warp with part of it winding 3 strands of Harrisville Shetland wool in hand at a time for a DarkDarkLight sequence. No matter how I hold it, there ends up being threads crossed in different place as I wind the warp. Will this be an issue at winding my warp at the loom or threading heddles ?

Okay.. thankyou Ginette... so there's no issue if threads end up twisted behind the heddles?

Yes.. I stopped winding my warp about 1/3 of the way done so I could get this question answered. I could unwind and start over if necessary.

Now I have gotten warp off board and successfully beamed warp and heddles are threaded. As I was sleyiing reed, I noticed a mistake that I am now in a quandry about. I hope you can help me evaluate how to go forward in way that makes the best sense.

I am weaving the Shetland Wraps from Jane Stafford kit...Burgoyne Berries. The center of the warp should have 210 ends(140 BlackCherry and 70 Suede) I have exactly half of that. Evidently forgot my starting place for the second half of winding warp., which I had done on a different day. Or just blew it on the math with the DDL sequence.

So at loom. instead of 302 ends I have 197. (Missing 105 of the DDL sequence)

As I see it, I can sley reed with what I have beamed and threaded on the loom to be about 19 3/4 in wide which should shrink to about 15 3/4 wide scarf instead of 24" wrap when woven..

I don't think I want 2 scarves like this.

How can I best fix this?

Do I need to unthread heddles, then rechain warp as I unwind/unbeam it from loom and then add in some additional warp? and basically start from the beginning?
To add width to warp, would it be best to add warp to both sides altering the design of the pattern, instead of trying to break in to the middle of this warp to add the missing threads>

Please advise...you may have a better idea.
Thankyou! I don't think I will make this mistake again! I want to weave more consistently so the whole process will become second nature to me and easier.

One option is to weave it as is and have a scarf instead of a wrap. Your finished scarf would be about 15 or 16 inches wide.

Oops. Sorry. I just reread your post and saw you didn't want to make two scarves with this width.

Before you unwind/unbeam, re-establish the cross with ties so that you can keep your threads in order. You could split the warp in two while you're unwinding, making 2 separate warp chains with the yarn that's currently on the loom. Then make a third warp chain with the missing 105 DDL threads to add in the middle.
