Hello all - I have woven a number of scarves in 8/2 bamboo but am concerned that the tassels of the twisted fringe look rather 'scraggy' at the ends and wonder how they will withstand repeated washing over the lifetime of the scarf. When I drain the water from the basin in which I have wet- finished the scarves, I can see quite a lot of bits of bamboo fibres that have been shed during the washing process and collected in the sieve covering the plug hole and the ends of the tassels look a bit of a mess. I presume there is nothing much to be done about this but thought I'd check to see if any of you can offer advice. Also, I wove the 8/2 bamboo at 20 epi, but now am not entirely happy with the drape of the scarves....I think they may be what Jane refers to as a bit 'sleazy'....could I overcome this by washing them again at a higher temperature I wonder, and hopefully shrinking them a bit? What's the hottest anyone has washed bamboo at I would be interested to know? Thanks.
Hi Katherine,
The only suggestion I have is after you've twisted your fringes and made your knot at the end , trim the ends close to the knot. Try one and see if you prefer the look. Did you also try washing one of the scarves in higher temperature? How did it turn out?
