Hi there, I'm a new weaver. I have been tying on the lease sticks as Jane recommends (down, down, up, up), so that there's a cross and the lease sticks can move freely. The problem I am running into is that as I wind on the warp, the lease sticks move towards the back beam and they constantly need to be pushed forward. Am I missing something? Thanks so much. Anna
Wandering Lease sticks
As well as the 'down, down, and up up' I also cross the twine once more at the back of the pair of lease sticks and then tie it at the back of the loom as shown by Jane. I think it is Season 1.2.1 just before minute 10? I have not experienced the sliding issue, and maybe that's the reason. The lease sticks can still be easily moved, but only when I slide them along myself.
Katherine, Just want to clarify, if you don't mind....In the video, Jane begins with the ties tied to the castle, then there's no cross between the castle and the lease sticks, then she puts a cross between the 2 lease sticks and another cross between the lease sticks and the back beam. Are you saying that you also add a cross between the lease sticks and the castle? I really appreciate your help. Thanks. p.s. I think I just realized that you mean there's a cross between the lease sticks and the back beam. Funny, because I am standing in front of the lease sticks, I think of the back being further from me....but that's actually towards the front of the loom. Have I thoroughly confused you yet?
Hmm....me? confused??.....Never! So let's see....is the back beam really the front beam if you are standing in front of it?.....or for that matter do I thread the loom or in fact loom the threads?....but to get to your question.....no there is no cross between the lease sticks and the castle...and as mentioned by Ginette, I also tie the twine quite tightly at the back beam. :-)
Ha ha, I think the meaning of life is bound up in this thread. Thanks again.
Here is a screenshot of what I mean.
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to find this. Now, all I need to do is try to replicate it.
I also find when tied with an X at each end, the lease sticks move much smoother when I need them to. When I'm threading the heddles, that's when I'll move the lease sticks closer to the heddles.
Anna, if they move quite a bit on you, try retying the twine tighter at the bow, this might help a bit.
What a great community. I should have reached out sooner. Thanks for the tip.
