Morning, Wondering if anyone has hints of how to weave a triangular scarf on a floor loom? Thanks so much!
Triangular Scarves
Hello mqgnz - I think that might be more trouble than it's worth to try on a floor loom.....but how about just weaving a square in yarn twice as fine as you would have used for the planned triangular scarf, and then just folding it into a triangle when you take it off the loom, sewing around the margins and ...Hey Presto! You have a triangular scarf! Am I a genius....or is that a ridiculous idea?! Probably the latter! :-)
Yes! That would be work. I think it is a process though as I would love to weave a poncho with a hood. I was thinking it was triangles. However, now I reconsider, due to your genius comments, with larger rectangles and squares!,, Thanks for your input!
Hi mqgnz - I have woven quite a few triangular scarves. It does require some figuring out if your loom is not generally suited to doing it. I have a Schacht Mighty Wolf jack loom which is 36" weaving width (can get 37" out of it at a pinch). I had to use loop extensions and some creative back beaming to get the length required for a good triangle. With shrinkage and the size of your victim, er, I mean recipient of the scarf, it might mean that it ends up not as generous a size as you would wish.

The weaving required getting up, going to the back of the loom to cut each warp thread as low (as long) as possible so that it can be used as the weft thread. Very awkward and heavy on the physique.
Hope this helps
