8/2 cotton colours

I'm in Ireland and trying to buy the materials for the projects. I am able to buy the Maurice Brassard cotton that Jane sells from a couple of different shops within the EU but the colour names used on the JST website are different. I've been trying to match them and having some trouble. Some of them are obvious, some of them can be translated directly to correspond with the French names, but many I just can't figure out which colour is which.

The colours on the Maurice Brassard website, as well as the shops I'm looking at here, all have number codes but these are not shown on the JST shop. I'm wondering if there's any way of getting a list of the colours as they are named on Jane's shop with the corresponding codes (or the original names) so that I can match them?

Hi Faery, I think the best route for you to take is to send your question to the Studio by emailing them at [email protected] Make sure to let them know that you are a School of Weaving member. I'm not on Salt Spring Island so can't quickly pop into the shop to find the answer to your question.

Thanks so much for your reply. I thought it would be best to post here in case it's helpful to others in a similar situation. I wonder if there's anyone from Jane's team on the forum who could find out or pass on the question?

I’m on Jane’s team but I don’t know the answer. The people who might know (other than Jane) are not on the Forum. That’s why I suggested you email the Studio.

If you do make progress with this I would be very interested in that information too, as I order most of my yarn from within the EU also.

Related to yarn colors, is there any chart or other information that has the RGB codes for the Brassard yarns? I love using Fibreworks, but the colors are hard to match to what I want to make. I often adjust the colors the best I can, but it leaves much to be desired.

If you google maurice brassard RGB, you’ll find a few links to these codes. Lunatic Fringe has quite a detailed list.

Are you sure Jane sells Brassard? I believe it to be Venne. The names match

Thanks everyone. Yes, it is Brassard. She does sell Venne as well but it's in a separate listing as organic cotton.

I have emailed them and got a helpful answer. I would like to share it with you Katherine Q. Does anyone know how to send a pm?

I do think it would be great if the info was available to everyone but I don't know if it's ok for me to share what I got here on the forum because it was a copy of handwritten notes from someone in the shop.

Sounds like progress! I don't know anything about sending PMs but I really can't imagine that there would be any problem with the information being shared on this forum. Maybe you could double check with the provider of the information just to be on the safe side?

I don't really think it's my place to do that. I'm not comfortable asking or posting someone else's notes. However, I've had a good look through the list and I thought it wouldn't be too much trouble to just type out the ones that aren't obvious, since there aren't too many of them.

These are all the ones that don't have the same name as the original or aren't a direct translation from French.

JST Name Original Name

Light Brown Brun Moyen
Apricot Jaune Or
Lemon Jaune Foncé
Butter Jaune Pâle
Orange Orange Foncé
Turmeric Orange Brulé
Light Plum Lavande
Baby Blue Bleu Pâle
Dusty Blue Vieux Bleu
Red Rouge Scarlet
Brick Brique (included because there is a different colour called Brick that Jane doesn't stock)
Merlot Wine
Wine Rouge Vin
Hot Pink Rose Foncé
Robin's Egg Vert Pâle

The rest of the colours can be matched using a translator if you don't speak French. I hope that helps you and anyone else shopping from outside North America.
