Hello: I am weaving a Qiviut blanket double weave on my 8 shaft Spring one. Not giving a lot of thought I threaded a Carol Strickler 327-6 Herringbone type pattern - 12345678. 4321. 8765 repeated. Now to tie up treadles and wonder if someone would be kind enough to help me.
When I look at Jane's double weave tie up it is 13, 123578, 135678, etc and I think I would tie these to the lower lams and the ones not used to the top lams. Many thanks if you could set me straight. Thank you Barb

Hi Barb,
So, just to clarify, you threaded your loom for a Herringbone twill, and you want to weave it as a double width blanket? What shafts are you thinking will be your top layer, and what shafts are you thinking will be your bottom layer?
Jane’s double width blanket in Season 3, Episode 7, has two layers on 4 shafts, with the top layer on shafts 1&3, and the bottom layer on shafts 2&4; If you want to convert this to 8 shafts, then you could put the top layer on the odd shafts and the bottom layer on the even shafts. Can you let me know which season/episode gave you the treadling you noted?

How kind you are to answer me - Actually I have woven a few blankets threaded 12345678 and used the tie up as I took it from Janes tie up for 8 shaft twill in double weave in knowledge base. Now I have this cone of qiviut and thought I would weave a blanket for my husband and I am a bit of a bull at the gate and took the draft from Carol Strickler as mentioned not even thinking how I would tie it up. All threaded and now for the tie up.? I know I should go to Janes double weave season and work it out but was hoping someone could help me instead. I have it threaded as I mentioned 12345678. 4321 8765. repeated. I also need to use something else for weft as people say it will be too hot using qiviut again. So thought I would try some of the many cones I have to see what looks good.

I tried your threading and treadling in Fiberworks and it looks like it will work with Jane's 8-shaft double weave tie-up, and a straight draw treadling (T, B, B, T, T, B, B, T) to have a nice herringbone on both sides, although the direction of the twill changes at the fold. With a herringbone it is less noticeable. And you may end up with a double thread at the fold and may need to pull one thread out.
In Fiberworks, again, I tried to change the direction of the treadling at a point, but it ended up with really long floats, so I wouldn't advise that.
Sounds like you are going to have a beautiful blanket. I hope you have a long enough warp to try some samples, with different wefts, and check out what is happening with both sides. Lucky man who will be receiving such a luxury gift.
