I'm about 2 1/2 yards into weaving a 7 yard warp on my Spring 1. Everything was going well until, suddenly, the beater assembly started rubbing against the handle that controls the front brake.
Can anyone tell me why this would happen? And -- more importantly -- how to fix it? Many thanks, in advance!

Thanks so much for your interest and help, Jane! I also posted this question in Ravelry, where someone suggested checking that the beater is sitting properly (it is) and tightening all the bolts. I haven't done that yet.

I really think the most important thing to do at this moment is to tighten up everything. If parts are loose then the whole loom goes out of square and that is probably what is happening. I can’t see anything that looks weird on your loom. Get your wrench and screwdriver out and tighten every nut bolt and screw on the loom and give us an update :)

It brings up a new question, however. The clearance on the right side (between the beater and the side strut of the loom) is miniscule. On the left, there's closer to 1/4" clearance. I probably shouldn't do this mid-project, but is there a way to adjust the beater so it sits slightly farther to the right?

Hi Ruth, great news. All looms need to be tightened up once in awhile. When you get your project off I would take the beater off the loom and lay it flat on the floor. You may find that it is not square, ie one part is sitting on the floor and the other side is off the floor. This happens because one side of the frame has been tightened more than the other which makes it's assembly askew...not the actual pieces. Loosen off all the screws until everything is flat on the floor and then re-tighten a little bit at a time on each side. One side and then the other. That usually fixes it all.
