Hello all
As I come towards the end of my warp, the tie up cords for the shafts which have not been raised for a given pick seem to become very loose on the rollers and sometimes even slip over into the next roller. If I return all levers to the ‘up’ position, everything goes back to normal. This has happened before, and seems to occur as I near the end of the warp, as the warp rod approaches the back of the frames. I am able to keep weaving regardless, but it is a bit of a bother, especially if the cord for one frame moves off its roller. Has anyone else had this happen and if so, can you advise me on any reasons and solutions to the problem? Thank you. Jane Loom- sagging tie up cords at end of warp
When I bought my 70cm Jane Loom from Lofty Fibers a year or so ago, I also got the add on 3D printed attachment that Lofty Fibers sales, to prevent the cords from jumping. I figured the jumping of the cords must be a problem, hence their solution. My cords don't jump. Check them out. they are in South Carolina I believe and are very responsive. They have several 3D attachments they have developed for the Jane. Check them out.
Thanks for that suggestion Barbara. Unfortunately Lofty Fibers do not ship to my part of the world as far as I remember. I tried to get the Helping Hands for warping from them before with no success, but in fact I now realise I can manage fine without it anyway.
The issue with the cords is how loose they become, so that in fact, rather than ‘jumping’ onto an adjacent roller, it is really more like falling or flopping out of place because there is no tension to hold the cord in place in its own roller. It only seems to happen just as I am getting towards the very end of the warp and only affects the cords on the frames which have been lifted.
I wonder if it has something to do with restricted or reduced space for up/down movement of the shafts due to the closeness of the threads in the heddles to the warping rod behind them?? Maybe I should try to contact Louet directly to see if they have any insight into the problem….or of course I could just stop trying to work so close to the end of the warp, and accept more loom waste!
