I am attempting to weave a double width project using cloud. I have sett my loom at 16 EPI and am weaving a sample. I created a warp with grey, white, and mixed grey/white stripes. I was attempting to weave log cabin in the grey/white stripe area, but was not able to get the opening I needed using 2 shuttles. I threaded the loom using 8 shafts because my actual project is 640 threads and I didn't want to add more heddles to my shafts. I think that I figured out the threading and treadling: threading is 1, 8, 2, 7, 3, 6 etc. and I threaded the colors White1, White8, Grey2, Grey7 etc. When weaving with the white, I completely cover all of my threads and don't see the grey at all. When weaving with the grey, I do get some peaks of white.
I don't want to make the sett any closer - any suggestions?

Hello! I am just designing a blanket with the cloud cotton in double weave. Is the shrinkage for the cloud cotton pretty much the same as non-organic non-cloud cotton? Thanks :)
Wondering if anyone has had problems with the cloud cotton being rather sticky. Working on 2 double weave throws. Trying to wind he warp the threads stuck together at the lease sticks and would break. To avoid more breakage I threaded the heddles first to preserve the pattern and then removed the lease sticks and wound on the warp, no problem. Now, when lifting a shaft, the threads stick together so much there is almost no room for a shuttle and have to put my hand in to separate the levels. I have 2 threads per dent - 8 dent reed. Was that my mistake, doubling them up on one dent? I considered switching to my 6 dent reed but I don't have one long enough. Any thoughts on this? I feel like I should have treated this almost like mohair.

I have woven a double weave with this yarn for a baby blanket in plain weave. I did use a 4 dent reed, I just happened to have one on hand. The yarn is thick and when they are squeezed together like you have, the threads can stick for sure when you open a shed, I can see this happening in an 8 dent reed as double weave.
I do agree with you, if the yarn is sticking when you open a shed, I would treat it like mohair. I'm not sure what your tie-up is, if you can do a skeleton tie-up, I would give it a whirl for sure. Let us know how it turns out.
Thank you for the reply and suggestions. I have used the Monte Cristo for multiple baby blankets but with 1 per dent. I wasn't sure if this has been an issue with the different cotton or the threading. It has been a bit of a test of my weaving happiness. Plain weave, top layer tied to 1 & 2, bottom 3 & 4. I am not familiar with a skeleton tie-up so will look that up and give it a go. Thanks again for your suggestion, and Happy New Year!

Lesson learned. Double weave, cloud cotton and an 8 dent reed are not good friends. Blanket finished but not without issues in the process. The back and forth of the reed pulled off fluff that would pile up on the back of the reed. After going through the heddles some of the fluff would stick together so not all the threads would rise as a unit. It was a constant process of checking and pulling out the loose fluff. In the end the blanket turned out fine, much to my surprise. This was my first double weave project; it tested my patience but I learned a great deal - mostly I should have taken the sage advice of Jane - sample first.
Sometimes with a sticky warp, I use a pick up stick to clear the shed before throwing my shuttle (much as Jane shows in her rep weave episode).
That makes a big difference. Between the revised tie-up and the stick the problems have been greatly minimized. What a great resource this Forum is. Thanks for your suggestion - I can now start weaving again peacefully! :)
