I am weaving a Huck Scarf with Bambu 7 - After doing some sampling and weaving about a yard and a half on the scarf 3 or 4 of my warp ends on either side began to fray and break. These are in plain weave. I'm weaving on a Spring 2. At this point I can't salvage it but need advice so this doesn't happen again as have more of this yarn, which I really like. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Thanks for quick responses. I think I do draw in more than I should so will work on that and also loosen tension. Happy New Year to you both. Will move on to Huck Color and Weave now and try the Bambu again later.

Where did you purchase the bamboo and what color are you using?

From JST. Periwinkle. I was going to use it for the episode but used some 5/2 cotton in stash for that and saved the Bambu for a wider scarf.

One of my weaving friends used a Bambu purchased from a different source and it shredded like it was rotten. Maybe that the periwinkle dye is at fault.

Thanks. I think it’s me not the yarn. I tried putting in more of an angle as Jane suggested and that made a difference. Another of many learning experiences in my weaving journey.

I do not think it has anything to do with the Periwinkle dye. Bambu 7 is a very soft yarn and if you have too much draw in at the selvedge it will abraid. I do weave with this yarn a lot but I know I have to keep my angle high in the weft to control the draw in. Sometimes we have to adjust our technique to the yarn because it can't adjust to us. I hope you don't give up on this yarn because it creates such a beautiful soft fabric, it is much softer than 5/2 mercerized cotton. All part of the learning curve :)

The lesson Jane is referring to in her message above is 2.2.4 where she talks about technique to alter draw in on the edges. She was weaving the Asymmetry sample on a loom that was larger than the one she was most comfortable on and was having to adjust her technique to ensure results she was happy with. I just watched it last night, so it wasn’t hard for me to find. Hope this helps.
