Hello weavers! I purchased the Bambu yarns to make the Heavenly Check scarf as a Christmas present. I am trying to understand what the size and number of plys are for the Bambu 12 gauge. Does "gauge" also refer to "size"? For example we have size 8 for an 8/2 cotton; is the Bambu 12 gauge also considered a 12/2 yarn? I think the bambu has 2 plys, although they appear to be extremely loosely plied.
I've never worked with such fine yarn before; I am taking the threading slowly to make sure I don't make mistakes.

Do be careful when washing it. My experience is that bamboo shrinks a LOT, to a disappointing degree. I avoid it.

If you wash it in the kitchen sink in luke warm water and a little dish soap, with a luke warm rinse and let it drip dry you won't have a lot of shrinkage.

Thank you this feedback about how to wet finish this yarn. I'm about half-way done with the heavenly check; after doing 2 full repeats of the checks in the warp color order, I had 28" woven. I decided to change it up in the middle, drawing from the sequences from fibonacci so I decided to do 1" of the carob with fig, using a 5 and 2 color sequence, then I have 4" of fig to get some rectangles, then I'm going to do 4" of carob in the middle, and 4" of aruba, and then to finish off framing the middle section I will repeat the 5-2 color sequence but using carob with the aruba. Then I plan to go back to the checks, but for the second half of the scarf I will weave the color sequences in the opposite direction of the warp color sequence, drawing on Jane's concepts of moving the colors out and back in. It's been a little slow going because I am being really careful not to draw in too much on the selvages; with such fine yarn if I go too fast it is easy to get a lot of draw in. I've found that when I have the beater against the fell, if I extend my shuttle hand further out to the side, then I have enough slack so that when I throw the shuttle I don't get any pulling against the selvage. That seems to be the key, and allows me to get a slightly faster rhythm going. I'm looking forward to seeing the final result!

I finished the scarf last night, managing to recover from a rookie mistake by forgetting to put in the end hemstitching. Wet finished and it only took a few hours to dry. A light pressing. Oh my, how the wet finishing changed this cloth! I was a little concerned when it came off the loom because I thought it was a little stiff, and not next-to-the-neck soft. But that all changed after the scarf took its bath. The drape is AMAZING, like butter! And so soft!!! Now I'm really glad that I warped enough to make 2, since the first one is a gift.

Beautiful scarf. I love the way the colors transition in the weft, with the simple warp colors. It really gives the whole piece depth. Amazing.

What set would you do 8/2 bambu in shadow weave? I did 10 dent. Seemed to loose and shrunk terribly with wet finish
