Ive studied Janes two mohair videos which deal with getting the mohair warp onto the the back beam and weaving. But Ive seen nothing about any peculiarities regarding the actual winding of the warp ... anything I should keep in mind that might be out of the ordinary?

Prior to winding the warp onto the back beam one has to make a warp, either on a mill or a warping board. That is the process I was wondering about, any pitfalls to watch out for in that process

I have ordered material for both a scarf and a blanket, figure I’ll start with the scarf to get my feet wet. I am very excited to try.

I have just finished a mohair scarf. I followed the general warp making instructions on a warping mill. I got a perfect warp on the loom. I think lack of ties was helpful with mohair, also I didn’t leave the warp long before putting on the loom so the fibres didn’t get a chance to settle and grip on each other. Best tip was direct tie up and raising each heddlr separately. I have woven mohair before and it was a slow and frustrating process. After following Janes instructions I am so happy with results.

Thank you for words of encouragement and tips. I am very close to finishing two wool blankets and after that, the mohair is next, first a scarf and then a blanket. I can hardly wait.

I hope your mohair blanket is fabulous! I also have questions about winding the warp ( I use a reel). I made a trial scarf and wound with one thread. I was toying with winding with two until I read Sandra's comment that one is probably best. Did you wind with one or two?

Did you wind the warp directly from the skein? I’m thinking that winding it into a ball might be a production ….
