Season 9 Episode 4 - Deflected Double Weave presented by Elisabeth Hill

Welcome back to a new episode starring the amazing Elisabeth (Lisa) Hill. Lisa's work has inspired me for years and many of you may follow her on Instagram where she is known as Plainweave. When I was planning this season I reached out to her and asked her if she would like to play with me. We are all so lucky that she said 'yes'.

Lisa has her Master Weavers certificate from Hill Institute in Florence, Ma. and she was a technical editor for Handwoven Magazine for 7 years. I knew she would be the best person to add another dimension to our study of Deflected Double Weave last year. After working with her on 2 episodes..... I was right.

The 4S project is for 2 scarves and is an exploration of DDW. We explore an overlay of denting and differential shrinkage on the first scarf. The second scarf teaches us how to turn the tie-up and change the treadling sequence to weave Turned M's & O's.

The 8S project uses threadings from our 4 shaft twill gamps (Season 4) as profiles for these 8 shaft, 4 block gamps. They can also be used as napkins! Each "gampkin" is treadled differently and will provide you with a lifetime of inspiration at the loom. They are amazing!

It was such a pleasure to work with Lisa and I learned so much from her. There is a little bonus section in the videos that shows you how to wind a warp with 4 Dark, 4 Light, differently than I've taught you. I wish I had known this trick 40 years ago. It is so wonderful to know we can keep on learning forever.

I hope you enjoy this jam packed episode.
