Season 2 Episode 2 - Asymmetry & Division of Space
Make sure you have your sketchbook out and be ready to take notes. You might also like to review Season 1 Episode 6, where I introduce you to division of space as my second step in the design process.
We go further now… you have your canvas and now you divvy up your space so you can pour other elements into it. We can pour in checks or stripes or plaid elements, symmetrically or asymmetrically, throw a frame around it, insert some repetitive sequences…. and the list goes on.
At the end of this episode there is an entire segment on the first sample…. called Asymmetry. As you will see, I have done a lot with this one warp. You will learn how to cut out a stripe and easily replace it with something else.
Many of the repetitive sequences I have used are from your second sample Colour and Weave Gamp. These are the sequences:
DDLL (2 Dark/2 Light)
If you are doing the weave along you can come up with your own, sequences…. there are so many possibilities it would take forever to go through them all. I am trying to share my thought process with you just to let you know that there is a system at use here…… it just doesn’t happen. I have my riffs and then I play with them.
I then cut off at the front and re-sley at 12 EPI and weave sequences with boucle as weft…..you will be sorry when your warp is done. That is a good thing because it means you’ll be back at the warping board mighty quick.
You will have more PDFs to print off and add to your binder.
Remember to tell us what you think in the forum…. it really does help.
You can purchase the Asymmetry Sample Kit and weave along!
2.2.1 - Creating Your Graphic Library
Jane introduces us to the tools that she uses to create her graphic in every piece of cloth she designs. We look at division of space, framing and the Colour & Design samples.
2.2.2 - The Sample Game - Name that Graphic
So many examples of graphics that you can add to your sketchbook as ideas in your Graphics Library.
2.2.3 - Introduction to Sample One
Rev up your looms for Sample #1 Asymmetry and learn about changing a zinger/threads in your warp, even when it’s on the loom.
2.2.4 - Sample One - Asymmetry at the Loom
Jane weaves Asymmetry, Sample #1, and shows you how to correct loose selvedges that causes smiley faces, square a pattern, and other tips as she weaves.
