We are so lucky to have Elisabeth Hill back to share her knowledge, enthusiasm and the samples given to her by her mentor Ute Bargmann. Ute was a textile historian and specialized in southern counterpanes known as Dimity.
It is difficult to find a lot of information about Dimity, so our goal is to provide you with the basic building blocks for this amazing 4 shaft structure that shares characteristics of many familiar weave structures we have already studied. It ties them all together in a new way.
Lisa has compiled a voluptuous binder of samples, gifted to her by Ute. It was one of these samples that inspired our project for this episode. Lisa has created it using 8/2 cotton in a more contemporary colour palette exploring the different ways it can be treadled.
It is so inspiring to connect with patterns written by weavers 150 years ago. How blessed we are 💕
