Season 10 Episode 2 - Honeycomb 2

I am so thrilled about this episode! Last year, we just scratched the surface of the Honeycomb treadling system so this time around we’re going to try it out on a couple of very interesting overshot/halvdrall threadings. Honeycomb can be woven on twill based threading.

We’re drawing inspiration from two threadings found in Marguerite Porter Davison’s A Handweaver’s Pattern Book—specifically Maria Collin’s Linen Weave and Double Irish Chain.

The Double Irish Chain is from the Overshot section of MPD and uses all four units of 2/2 twill in a stunningly beautiful block arrangement. Maria Collin’s pattern is from the ‘Thousand Flowers' chapter which are predominantly Halvdrall patterns and uses 2 units on opposites. Large blocks of A with little units of B on one side of the cloth and then large blocks of B with little units of A on the other side. Both are very unique threadings.

We have two projects lined up, both for cushion covers! It is a gorgeous exploration of Honeycomb and it really pushes our ability to create contemporary looking textures on these old threadings.

I hope you’ll enjoy watching this episode as much as I enjoyed creating it.
