Thanks Jane, I am doing another warp in cooler colors. I did not beat to 20ppi with the bamboo. I just used my Metal Linentest device and I was at 16 epi grrr. I will definitely beat more firmly with the next warp.

Absolutely one of the most fun ( and easy) pieces to weave. The colors that mimic our fall in Chicago and the gorgeous 16/2 bamboo yarn - not to mention the sequin which seemed so difficult to understand how this would happen on the loom BUT once again Jane you set us up for success.
You all do they the work and we just get to enjoy. I've sent this on to many of my fellow weavers who are in your weaving school and said this is a "must" to weave.

In the middle of my third scarf and trying to calculate length of this middle section (I’m not following the pattern). Did anyone keep track of the “on loom” length they wove these scarves to or barring that recall what the shrinkage in length was?
Hi Lori, I wove 4 scarves and did keep the before and after calculations.
Finished size after hand washing in luke warm water for 4 min ( I timed myself) and then hung to dry was about 2 1/2 to 3 inches in length for each scarf. It was only 1/4 " in width. The first scarf I did not beat at 20PPI consistently so I also lost some sequins but then as I worked with the other scarves I was doing much better and did not loose the sequins.

This is a photo of my second warp. This time in cooler tones. I beat more firmly and this time, on the bamboo weft (scarf on the right), I only lost one sequin !! Again, I preferred the bamboo scarf with it's random striping...I did not follow any plan. I wove it first as it took more thought. I wove the scarf on the left, using tussah silk weft, last. The stripe repetition makes the weaving so much faster.

Many years ago I did a sequins in pocket silk shawl. This is when I found out that sequins and silk create enormous amounts of static electricity which manages to launch those darn sequin discs all over the place!
Kept finding them even in rooms where I didn't have the loom! In fact I was picking them up for months afterwards - even my housemate was giving me little sparkling presents after I came home from work!
And I hate to tell you that when I moved house 10 years later - guess what - I found two of them glinting at me from behind the dust bunnies 😂

Okay hive mind. I just took my 4 scarves off the loom and discovered a cut into the first scarf about 1/2 an inch in from the end and 1/3 inch deep into the selvedge! I have absolutely no idea how I managed to do that - my scissors have never acted independently before - and it looks worn so I must have done it early on while it was still on the loom.
The only solution I can come up with is to do a rolled hem all the way up the edge on both sides. All suggestions most welcome. 😢
Oh Lori, I can’t imagine how that happened. I think the only thing you can do is hem it or you could do some creative mending. There are so many people reminding us how mending is can be so beautiful. Maybe a little embroidery and if you feel it is awkward in just one place you could purposely mimic it in other places. This is an opportunity to add another layer. Let us see what you come up with. Xo
That’s an intriguing idea Jane. I have some scarves from India tucked away that I should get out and take a look at for inspiration. Thank you! I am busy twirling the ends - going to take awhile before I get them in the water. Boy I sure love the hand of them with the stabilizing selvedge!
Yes, the weavers of India know how to take anything and make it beautiful. They have such remarkable patience. Slow, quiet, stitching that adds so much to their work. There are some villages where the weavers, embroiderers and bandani artists (what we call tie dye) all work on a piece and the overlays are simply stunning. I think you can make this something extra special and that’s why we weave, to make extra special pieces. Xo
Well further to my previous posts about the selvedge damage. This afternoon when I was giving a final press I found another spot on a different scarf where the selvedge edge is broken - not as deeply but in much the same way. I don’t think I accidentally cut the cloth at all; think the selvedge threads were worn and abraded and then broke some time after I wove past them. Big sigh!

Planning for my warp. I want to weave yardage for a tunic/dress. The pattern consists of rectangular pieces. Trying to get the width right so I won't be cutting into it.
The instructions have the finished width at 11.5 inches and the width in the reed as `14.25 inches. That is 20% shrinkage.
Someone here reported 1/4 inch, as did a friend of mine. Is the Pattern instruction sheet correct? Thanks
I did not get much shrinkage either. Are you going to use silk or bamboo for the weft? I found the tussah silk to be much more stable than the bamboo and IMHO would be a better choice for an actual garment. I can’t wait to see your results!

I plan to use bamboo for the weft. I can see your point with silk but I've already bought the bamboo and need to use that.
Have accepted my fate of needing to sample. I realized that people reporting a small amount of shrinkage, may be measuring the difference between off the loom and after finishing, which really is the shrinkage. The large percentage difference between in the reed and after finishing includes the effect of removing the reed, plus the effect of wet finishing.

I will be weaving my sequin scarves next and am so excited about this project. My bamboo and sequin products have been awaiting me. In addition to weaving the project per specs, I have a couple other ideas. I love the supplemental/floating warp that David had in the show and tell. I worked out how to make a supplemental warp on FiberWorks, but it is using the same set of warp threads as the pockets. So the supplementals would be right below or right above the sequin pockets in the fabric. Ideally I would like to have the supplemental warps in a different part of the warp. Here's what I did -- I tied up shafts 1,3,5,6, &8 on treadle 9 and shafts 2,4,5,6, & 7 on treadle 10 This puts plain weave on the A treadles and the supplemental warps on shafts 7 and 8 on the B treadle . Has as anyone figured how to include supplemental warps so they are in a different area of the warp?

David did his scarf on 8 shafts. You only need 4 shafts to weave a pocket and 2 shafts to frame the pocket. That would leave you 2 more shafts to thread supplementary warps on and you can put them anywhere you want. The only thing you won’t be able to do is weave it as turned twill because I threaded the framers on 4 rather than 2 so I could weave turned twill. How does that sound to you.

Thank you, Jane. This is what I've worked out. I know it isn't there yet and I think my problem is in the threading. I've tried different things but this is the best I've gotten so far. I will be doing the original project before this, but I have something in mine for a second go at it.

Here is a version of that draft with supp's add on shaft 7. I have included a tie-up that allows them to be up or down while weaving the pocket but you can play with that. You could also add them to the tabby treadles which I haven't done. When we start playing with all these ideas we always want more treadles :)
