Hi Sandra,
I was thinking to use up some of my stash to try collapse weave. In the intro video, Jane talks about different yarns to use. One suggestion is to use Shetland wool as the 'shrinker' along with 2/8 cotton set at 12 epi. Was this sett for both or just the cotton? My gut tells me to use a wider sett for the wool like 10 epi. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Can you find the time mark in the video where she mentions this???? I've been quickly scrolling through and maybe missed it. On Jane's Master Sett Chart she uses a sett of 8 for a balanced cloth using Harrisville Shetland.

Thanks, Joan, I'd forgotten that and didn't scroll far enough! OK - the main thing I take from that is "a couple of ends of Harrisville Shetland" - basically an 8/2 cotton cloth with wee strips of Shetland to give it a seersucker look, if you spread them - maybe in squares - throughout your warp and then in your weft. However, I don't think that Jane has woven that but it would be interesting if you wove a sample and reported back - maybe with a picture? It sounds like a fun idea to play with.......

Hi Sandra, here is the link to my sample using 8/2 cotton in yellow and green with a couple of ends of shetland in the white.

One photo shows after washing for about 7minutes and letting dry. I wanted more shrinkage for contrast so washed it again for 5 minutes. I set it at 12 epi. A bit challenging to weave at 12 ppi! I warped 12 ends of cotton (6 each of the yellow and green) and put 2 strands of wool between.
It's very cool to see what happens to the different yarns after washing. Any feedback is most welcome.

Got the second photo! The one you posted is obviously the one after fulling the extra 5 minutes. You are getting great texture in your cloth and are smart to full in small “pockets” of time! I have two scarves I wove this year - one makes a good winter scarf and the other a lightweight summer scarf. Things can change more quickly than you realize!

I just finished the collapsed weave episodes and have my sample off the loom. I learned so much. For one thing - I found I did not have the water quite hot enough to start because nothing would happen even after 5-6 minutes. So I increased the temp to just this side of hot and added more soap. I kind of went the other direction then and my wool bands are a bit on the felted (not fulled) side. But I love the pucker I got in the silk bands. This was a sample so I used a whole bunch of different weft materials. Silk, bamboo, cotton. In all different colors. What a great lesson. I wanted to use this technique to make material for a loose jacket and now I feel much more confident in going forth! Just need to take a little more care with the fulling process! I would add pictures but I cannot see a way to do that.
