Rebecca, I love this episode. I’ve woven baby blankets with a DK weight cashmere/cotton and just completed towels with 8/4 thick and 16/2 thin cotton. Now I want to weave scarves using Zephyr/Freya as thick and silk for thin. I’ve never woven with silk and don’t know which weight would be appropriate. Also wondering if 18/2 freya is thick enough or if I should treat two strands as one . What would you recommend?
Thank you for your inspiring lessons!
Ann
Ooo, that sounds like a LOVELY yarn combination. I would double the Freya, and wind on "three" at a time, with two strands of 30/2 silk and the doubled Freya held as one, keeping that finger in between each thread to avoid twisting while making the warp. There is a shrinkage / stretch differential between the silk and the Freya, so you might want to warp for just a single scarf at first and treat it as a full sized sample, before committing to a longer warp.
I'd love to see the colours you choose and how it looks on the loom or woven up! What a delicious fabric those two yarns will make.
