I am also having trouble with the threads twisting as I change direction. It has to twist either above or below my hand. I keep re-watching the video to see if Jane's hand position changes. There is some pronation (palm down) to supination (palm up) as she comes around the threads but at some point I have to let go, reposition my hand to keep it from twisting. This is a long thread. Does anyone ever replay with help?

Hi Gwen, I missed your question! How many threads are you warping with? When I'm warping, I try and keep my hand vertical when I'm going from peg to peg and don't usually get too many tangles on the loom especially if it's only 2 or 3 threads.

I have major twisting of threads issue but don’t notice the “twisting” until I unravel my “chain”.
Now convinced the “twisting” doesn’t occur on warping board ….. it happens when making the “chain” as I make my body turn.

Hi Cynthia,

When you have a warp on your loom and tugging on the warp with the new unravelled part of the chain as you wind on, do the threads realign themselves? I usually have to give it a good tug to straighten them all back. Also, just thinking, do you have a bit of tension on your warp when you're making your chain from the warping board?

Yes the threads sometimes "realigned" but most times the threads would have to be unravelled before it cross over the "rattle".
Tension on my warp when making the chain.....I like to think that I've following "Jane's" technique . Again, I'm trying to following Jane's instructors when making the chain.
Now I'm very NEW at weaving. Only been 1 1/2 yrs. I always go back to Jane's Season 1 to watch warping and making a chain to ensure I do what she does.
Now I found a way around it....others recommended making an "easel" at the front of loom and there I can see the twisting and correct it before it passing over the "rattle".
My last project, Season 4 - Twills cut the pattern down from 10 yards to 5 yards hoping I'd get less twisted threads....less but still got some twisted.
Its ongoing learning experience with each project.
As I haven't weaved or warped in over 6 months, I went right back to Season 1 to watch all of Jane's lessons. WOW! Repetitiveness is very important...and feel more comfortable. This 5 yard warp went right in about 2 hours. Previously those 10 yard warps could and would take me days.

PS: My first lessons were with a weaving club and they said to do 2 sets of crosses in a warp. This last 5 yard I only did 1 cross as Jane showed and I'm hopeful that corrected my twisting. Red yard did 2 crosses and got twisting. Natural did 1 cross and NO TWISTING...

Oh I hear you about the raddle and the threads tangling right there! Glad you found a system that works and that your last warp went on easier!

I do the 'back of hand fling' that Jane demonstrates in the video at the 29:30'ish mark and I do it twice, where she shows and right at the front of raddle before going through the raddle on my David loom or when I use my 1/2 inch spaced raddle. I do it every time I unravel more warp chain and before I continue winding on just to get every one of those threads in order. I tend to make long warps :)
