Help! I'm weaving the linen tea towels from the kit purchased from JST. This is my first time working with 40/2 linen. I just tied my warp onto the front apron rod and noticed I wound 20 extra ends near the left side of the warp. What is the best way to handle this. I can't just drop them off as there are 7 ends of indigo that need to be included in the warp to balance the pattern. I have a lot of time invested in this project and can't believe I made such a silly error when winding my warp.
Hi Barbara,
If you want to keep the pattern symmetrical, you'll need to drop those 20 extra ends at the back of the loom and rethread your 7 ends of Indigo. It's less than an inch which is workable to move those 7 Indigo. Those 20 extra ends are in Denim right? So you did 104 Denim instead of 84 and, only at one end?
By the way, I feel for you! Been there, done that!
Yes...that's exactly what I did...an extra 20 ends. I could see right away as I was tying on to the apron rod. I dropped the extra ends and rethreaded the last 7 indigo ends and it seems to be working fine. I'm finding the 40/2 linen a little challenging. I snapped a thread while winding on which was very frustrating and there were several knots in the linen as I was winding the warp. This may be my first and last time weaving with linen!
Thank you for replying to my question.
Let us know how it turns out! Watch your warp tension so that it's not too tight and advance frequently, you've got a sweet spot on your loom you want to weave in :)
It's going well so far...fingers crossed!!! Thank you for all your help and suggestions!
