Hello all and fellow EU members in particular - I am looking for any information on what the additional cost of ordering yarn or full kits from the JST shop for delivery to an address in the EU is, due to shipping and customs charges.

If any of you have bought any of the kits could you please let me know the cost of the kit itself and what you ended up paying in total. I would love to buy some of them, but really can't afford to if the additional costs are high.

Unfortunately, as has been mentioned on other threads, finding EU sources of some of the beautiful yarns used by Jane is extremely difficult! Thanks.

Just put in your basket what you would like ,enter your address and you will see shipping costs.
What will be added in your country like handling costs , VAT ... you have to ask your customs administration

OK thanks. I just checked and it looks like the shipping alone would cost me 200CAD ( i.e €122) for the kit for the Honeycomb scarf from Season 9. I wonder is that correct? It seems very high.

It's a flatrate, means you can buy a lot of kits for the same price. Perhaps you have a weaving friend and could place an order together and/or buy the supply for the next year?

For customers outside North America we charge a $200.00 CAD flat rate shipping at checkout, it generally doesn’t cost this much to ship a parcel (depending on weight and dimensions of package) we will refund the difference back to your method of payment once the parcel ships. Depending on your country’s tax laws the parcel may be subject to taxes and duties payable upon delivery. I bought from JSTextiles in 2024 and had to pay 20 % import sales tax (so called EUSt) and customs duty, which is to pay for goods valued at € 150 or more in Austria.
Possibilities to save costs for duty and tax is buying the yarn in Europe, for example from Wallmonte or Venne B.V. (Louet). Regards Tina

Thanks very much Tina. Have you found any EU source of 16/2 baby Alpaca in a good range of colours I wonder? I have ordered from Wallmonte and Venne B .V alright and found Wallmonte in particular very good, but I don't think they sell baby alpaca or any wool yarn....maybe I should go back and check since I haven't been on their website for a while. I bought Alpaca (Holst Garn Titicaca) 50 g/400m - lace - at „strickideen.de“ and was able to use it as warp and weft, dear Katherine. This yarn might be heavier than 16/2. Please let us know if you find a good source offering yarn in JST - Quality. I am too very sad that we Europeans can‘t buy Jane‘s lovely kits easily and without paying extra for duty and tax. OK I will see if I can track that down at strickideen.de. If it is heavier than 16/2 I suppose the sett could just be a bit lower than the 15 epi Jane uses for honeycomb weave with the baby alpaca. Another place I have used quite a bit is Artifilum in France. They sell fine wool on cones that may in fact work well as an alternative to alpaca. It's around €33 for a 250g cone I think.

Hi, Have you tried Wollinchen.de yet? She offers baby alpaca from Venne and also has other beautiful yarns for weaving. However, she doesn't have unlimited stock. Greetings from Germany!

For Alpaca https://www.lamana.de/en/yarns/piura might be worth a try.
2ply 400m/5og means it is 16/2 as well. But not every knitting yarn is good for weaving, some are much too bouncy as I had to discover...
Perhaps you can find it in a wool shop and take a look at it first. And sample whether it felts as required for some of the projects here.

Hi Catherine - Thanks I just took a look at that and it looks like beautiful yarn alright with a good selection of colours. I have emailed one of the stockists in Germany to ask if they think it would be suitable for weaving, so will wait and see. I am going to have to increase my rate of weaving dramatically if I am to keep up with my growing yarn mountain!
