Hello! I can’t seem to get a good shed when I weave turned twill. I have worked on my Spring 1, my Schacht Baby Wolf and my Fireside. The only one I haven’t had trouble with was on my Fireside which I have sold. I love TT, especially block TT. Why do the threads not raise up and down properly to create a good shed and is there anything I can do about this problem to prevent floats?
It sounds like your loom might need a little tweaking. You should get an excellent shed on your Spring…I am weaving all the Turned Twill episodes on a Spring. It is hard to diagnose a loom issue without seeing what the shed looks like on either one of those looms. Perhaps your beater is not at the correct height. You can raise the beater on both looms which would support the bottom of the warp while the shed it open. Your bottom of your warp should be sitting on the shuttle race when the shed is open. On the Spring loom you raise the beater by unscrewing the feet on the beater. You can adjust the Baby Wolf down at the bottom as well. There are 2 nuts on the inside of the beater legs at the bottom and a groove that allows you to raise and lower your beater. Perhaps you are weaving with too much tension on the warp which would make the sheds smaller. If you send me a picture of your loom with the she open I might be able to see something else.
