In our world, the longer, warmer days will soon bring us the colours of spring. Imagine weaving a scarf or……. in bright, cheerful colours to bring thoughts of spring inside while you wait for colour to appear outside. In the meantime - what’s on your loom right now ;-)
My looms are all naked....waiting for inspiration.
Looking forward to when it lands 😁
Picture it ....... 1 x Residential Aged Care home; 1 x Ashford Knitters Rigid Heddle loom; 1 x Colour and Weave warp, in cheap and cheery acrylic yarn, intended to become one strip of five (or so) sewn together for a throw; 1 x troop of elderly 'helpers' in various stages of abilities - all chanting D/L/DD/L to the rhythm of Cha Cha, Cha, Cha, Cha !!!!!
A while back I bought some heavy cotton yarn and a pattern for a spring sweater. About halfway through the gauge swatch I realized that my hands would be on fire if I tried to knit the whole thing! Heavy stiff cotton yarn, big needles -- I just can't do it anymore. I stewed for a bit and then warped my loom with it for a modified version of the big baby blanket. It is working up quickly and scrappily, using some of the warp cotton and some of the turquoise, lime green, and white I had leftover from a couple of Jane's kits. It's always a good feeling to use up leftovers.
Forgot to take a picture until I was unwinding!!! So, technically speaking, it was still on the loom. ;). It’s my Mosiacs Tile Scarf from the recent issue of Handwoven. I just needed something bright and springlike! It was my first project with 8/2 Bambú.
The pattern is so subtle and gentle. Love it! I’ve not use bamboo yet; was it very different from 8/2 cotton?
I’m finding that the 8/2 Bamboo has a really nice drape, especially after a good soak. It’s not as stiff as 8/2 cotton. I’m definitely keeping it in mind for future scarves. I’ve also used 16/2 Bamboo for a scarf, which gives the scarf a more ‘delicate’ look than the 8/2.
I just finished “Charlie’s Scarf” and now warping cotton boucle towels using the ocean kit. Totally digging the greens ❤️
Finishing up the Plaid warp. Did a bunch of sampling, some towels and I am now weaving a nice scarf for a friend with 2/20:silk that I have dyed myself. Looks amazing!
Double-Faced Twill shawl in 4 shafts from Harrisville Shetland--- lots of accumulated colors, dye lots, partial cones. What an interesting structure and very cozy! [img][/img]
My new to me Norwood is naked, awaiting a doubleweave warp. Why is it that double weave is intimidating me?
Just finishing up Sweet Linen and Lace Tea Towels from Handwoven Spring 2025. I’m trying to reduce my stash so had to convert the draft to accommodate 8/2 cotton instead of 40/2 linen. This was a bit of a challenge for me with all the various pattern repeats in the warp and weft for this project.
Hi Marty, I can’t access the link. I get a message saying the link is invalid or expired.
Yikes! Thanks for the heads up Kathleen! Here’s a second attempt….

Dang - those selvages are spectacular 😍
Thanks Diane! I use AVL shuttles which have tension adjustments that really seem to help my selvedges.
I totally agree with Diane. Gorgeous piece of weaving, Marty! I’m still on Season 2 plain weave so I’ve a way to go yet .. 🤪. As boat shuttles are fairly new to me, am just wondering what an AVL shuttle is. 🤔. Is it the one with a curved metal piece on top? I hope you don’t mind my asking! I’m in the UK so things might be different here.
Hi Raven,
AVL is the brand name of the shuttle. This shuttle uses different bobbins than the shuttles Jane uses in her online videos. Here’s link to the shuttle with the tension device….

Wow! That is certainly an amazing shuttle. Thank you, Marty, for passing on the information. Interesting to see how much work is going into weaving looms and accessories these days.
