Hello all
I'm starting in on season 6 overshot scarves. Warp is wound, and I have zephyr and silk from my stash to get started. I'm wondering about Jane's recommendation that 12gauge bamboo can be used in place of silk. I have 16/2 bamboo - would that work? I'm having a hard time determining what 12 gauge is in comparison.
Also - what substitutes are people using for zephyr now that Jaggerspun is no longer in business? Jane suggested merino - but the merino she sells is also a Jagger product. I love zephyr and I'm treasuring what's left in my stash.
Thanks everyone! Appreciate the help. Happy weaving!
Hi Kelly - The Studio is working on replacement yarns for the 50/50 merino/silk and the 100% merino, but don't have anything solidly “in the works” yet. However, there is still has some merino, in a variety of colours, available in the shop. https://janestaffordtextiles.com/product-category/yarns/wool-wool-blends/18-2-merino/.
Jane’s recommended sett for 16/2 bamboo is plain weave: 24 epi and twill (3/1: Turned Twill): 30 epi.
Also, I found the following sett for 12 gauge bamboo on the web: plain weave 30 epi & twill 36 epi
Have fun doing some sampling to see what works best for you….
