I just took a double weave harrisvile shetland blanket off the loom. What other options for fringe do I have besides twisted?
I am really lazy and tend to not do twisted fringe. I left enough warp, 6-8 inches at each end, on my Harrisville Shetland blankets that I could tie a group of fringes with 4 warp threads in a knot really close to the woven edge and then another knot at the end of the group....repeat
Wet finish in my front load washer on gentle/delicate. Take out of the washer and pull the little groups away from each other if they've stuck to each other, but DO NOT separate the threads inside each group. If the threads inside some of the groups haven't sort of felted together yet, dip just those groups in a little water and roll them back and forth in my hands to felt them more. Dried in dryer on low heat for 10-15 min.
Finish air drying, then trim the knotted ends off of the groups to 3 inches or so of fringe. I use a rotary cutter and mat.
Hi Cheryl,
Have you ever tried super short fringe- eyelash? Fringe? I believe you mentioned weaving with cashmere and wondered about your ends.
Hey NATO, I have not tried that short of a fringe.
Thank you! Looking forward to trying it.
I have another question: love twisting fringe, love hemstitching etc. etc. What I do not like is the darn knot at the end of the fringe. Any ideas? I have an alpaca shawl that is crying out for a fringe without knots.
Thank you!
I noticed that! Since the shetland has outstanding felting capabilities that would be great but I wonder if the alpaca would behave responsibly in this situation... But what I have now decided to do based on what you say Katherine is to do an experimental alpaca twisted fringe and see what happens. Thank you for the jog!!
Many thanks!!
