What are you weaving in this bright New Year?
Can you believe it - it's already January, 2024!
Happy New Year!!! While waiting for my yarn order to arrive, I’ve done some stash busting with Susan Poague’s Handwoven Sept/Oct 2019 Circle and Checks Towels in Turned Taquete. Polka dots always make me smile!
Happy 2024!!
Currently, only Jane has a warp on her. I am weaving 8 harness Cottolin warp / tow linen weft hand towels, sett at 20 epi and 20 ppi, with varying borders and twill patterns. I am experimenting to see which ones (should have 6) I prefer after weaving, washing and drying before I commit to weaving 4 big bath towels for my master bath.
Happy New Year....I'm still working on turned twill inspired by Janes lessons in Seasons 5 and 6. I've got one threading error in this warp...I'm leaving it alone. Can't wait for double weave in Season 8.

hi Cheryl. How big are you measuring for the bath towel warp?
Hey Kit...your turned twill looks fabulous !!
I am going to weave the towels pretty much the full width of my David 3...so around 35 Inches. The length will be woven to 72 inches. I'll put on a 9 yard warp.
Do you also have some plans to weave bath towels?
Hey Cheryl,
Let us know how your towels turn out. I wove bath towels using 3/2 organic cotton a few years back. They came out well, big and thirsty!
Hi Cheryl, I'm still enjoying turned twill but soon plan to move on. I'm lookin forward to double weave in Season 8. yes, a friend asked me to weave some bath towels for her.
So, my newest experimentation of absorbent threads are off the loom, washed and dried and awaiting hems. I warped up my Jane loom and used an 8 harness Rosepath Twill and wove different colored borders. The warp is Bockens Nialin at 20 epi and the weft is Bockens 6/1 Tow Linen at 20 ppi. As I was weaving towel #3, my dear husband asked if I would weave him some wash cloths…so, I wove him 3 wash cloths with the remaining warp using the Nialin as weft.
Off the loom, the wash cloths were already soft, the hand towels were stiff, as is usual for tow linen. After a trip in the washer and dryer the towels were soft. About 10% shrinkage. The tow linen makes the towels a little wrinkly, as I expected, but this will get better with continued use. This yarn combination is nice and thirsty and I will be using in the future for kitchen towels, and can do a direct substitution for 8/2 cotton.
Now, I just need to hem all of these, and then off to warping up David for bath towels.

Cheryl, those are gorgeous!!
I forgot to write that the warp color was natural (undyed) and the main weft color was Beige.
Absolutely beautiful, Cheryl. I never think to weave bath towels. Another project!
Marty, what sett did you use for your 3/2 organic cotton bath towels. I have a big cone of this cotton in white and wondering what to make with it. Thanks.
Thanks Beth. I have enough dish towels for many years and thought I'd expand my repertoire !!
