I love these patterns so much! The difference in the color from one side to the otherโฆ.I canโt evenโฆ.Iโm just so impressed. Thank you JST staff.
Looks like you are having a ton of fun!!
I'm making the Monte Cristo Baby Blankie!
But making it my own by adding pastel grid using Gist Mallo. Took me forever to get to weaving since I had a couple of threading issues. Luckily, I was able to fix easily. I used my 6 dent reed and sleyed it 1-1-2.
My one complaint is that I can't get enough on a bobbin to do an entire block without reloading. And I have had to throw that shuttle a lot faster to get across.

Really pretty Deb. What weaving width are you using? My floor loom is 48" and I have found that 40" is really the max for comfortable weaving for me. Also, I have a couple of the bigger Schacht boat shuttles (take the 6" bobbin) that I use with heavier weft etc. The shuttle itself is pretty heavy and takes a little getting used to, but it sure can travel farther.
Thanks, Cheryl. My loom is 43.5. This is only the third project and it is 33โ in the reed. Itโs the widest Iโve done so far. Iโve wondered how wide I could actually go, though, as I want to make double weave blankets. I think if I can max out at around 36โ, Iโll be happy.
I did just order a 13โ Schacht shuttle and some 5โ bobbins, but now Iโm wondering if I should have ordered the 15โ.
Oh well, itโs only money, right? ๐คฃ
I have had both shoulders replaced, and so have to baby them. My Louet David is 36", but that's enough to be a strain sometimes. I have waxed my Schacht shuttles to reduce drag and it does help. I take a small cloth, pick up a tiny bit of Johnston's paste wax and put a thin coat on just the areas on the bottom of the shuttle that it scoots on, then buff with a dry cloth to remove any excess wax. Avoid the large raised ends that you catch the shuttle with, which would make them hard to hold onto. It really makes the shuttle glide over the threads easier.
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
I have just finished the first major project on my new 110cm Louet David III. I decided to play with the full loom width and all 8-shafts - what better place to start than a turned twill as outlined in Season 5, Episode 1! I used 5/2 mercerised cotton to make a baby blanket for the brand new granddaughter of a friend. She chose the colours, I sent her some design ideas created on my computer and off I went! The dimensions of the finished piece are 97x126cm (108cm in reed). I am REALLY pleased with this piece - the colours are gorgeous, the patterns are great, it was fun to weave and the finished fabric is SO soft.

Simply beautiful !!
Wow! You are more adventurous than I am! I have the same loom (43.5โ?) and Iโm sticking to plain weave for awhile, though I was taking a peek back at double width yesterday. ๐
It is the same loom - I'm in New Zealand where we work in metric ๐
I've had it for just over a month and am really enjoying it! It's a big step up from ,my 60cm (23.5"), 4 shaft table loom.
I found that Season 5, Episode 1 was a great intro to working with all 8-shafts. I feel ready to tackle anything now!! ๐ After all, what's the worst that can happen? Perhaps a bit of "unweaving", rethreading or retying
Same here. Had it for a little over a month and LOVE it! I moved up from a 32" RHL and I am never going back there! hahaha!
I know what you mean! Your Monte Cristo blanket looks beautiful. Happy weaving ๐
Karyn, how on earth do you keep track of eight treadles without labeling them? ๐คฃ
I am only using two for PW and have removable painters tape on them.
I have 8 of the 10 treadles tied up for this project (see tie-up #1 for Season 5, Episode 1). I have the X treadles tied-up to treadles 1-4 and the Y-treadles tied-up to treadles 7-10. This leaves me with two treadles in the centre that are lying on the floor. I treadle the X-treadles with my left foot and the Y-treadles with my right foot. The two in the middle give me a place to feel with my feet so that I know where I am. I'm treadling wearing only socks (it's winter and cold down at the floor level ๐คฃ) so that I can feel the treadles as I work. Does that help?
Yes. I think I would still mess up, though. ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Start slow and gradually speed up - you get a rhythm going. It's like dancing ๐ Happy weaving ๐
Hey! I did it! I changed my tie-up for twill! Youโre right. It wasnโt as scary as I thought! ๐๐คฃ๐
Congratulations ๐๐พ Iโm so pleased that you tried it! Thereโs no stopping you now ๐ฅณ
