Oh Susi, that is terrible. Do you still have the chains....you might be able to salvage them....especially is you have a place in the chain where nothing has been disturbed. If you have them please send me pictures and I might be able to help you use them. Yes...you can make multiple chains and warp with no problem. When you take the chain off the board you could slide it onto the lease sticks right away so nothing gets moved or tangled. When you do take the warp off the board make sure you don’t pull the end though the chain....just chain up to the cross and slide everything off...leaving the cross out of the chain. If you are leary about this you could have the lease sticks ready to string on the loom, get one on...tie up the lease sticks so everything stays tidy then make your net chain....then open the side of the lease sticks where the next one should go and slide it on etc. Etc. If you chain tightly like I demonstrate the chains shouldn’t fall apart...that is why I chain so tightly so I have control over them. As long as both your warps are made with the same guide string...they will be the same length...doesn’t matter what they look like chained. Once you have them on the lease sticks and spread out in the raddle...move to the front of the loom and give them a good tug which will realign any mess that occurred when you spread them in the raddle. Then just pull out enough from both chains and wind that on....weight both warps the same way. A warping mill will help with your length but even a table top mill has its limitations....it is the length of the dowel that creates the limitation on number of threads you can put on. Don’t forget....you can always push the warp back on the pegs to squish them once they are on. That will help. If you squish on every peg all the way down it will help stay away from the end of the peg as well. You can also practice with a smaller project until you get all your technique under control. I know it is very frustrating to loose good yarn :(. The 2nd warp I ever made completely sprung off the warping board when my back was turned. I was sure I could get just a few more ends on.....I can still see it lying in a heap on the sidewalk....I had to do it outside because that was the only place I could nail the warping board to a wall....I grew up in an old house with plastered walls and my Mom would have killed me if I tried to put it up in the house. How I laugh when I think back at all my disasters...and let me tell ya.....I could write a book on that alone :). Sending you tons of good vibes :)
