If you look closely at my photo and compare it to the 1st gamp in the lesson, my first row - straight draw - looks correct. But after that it starts looking very different.
Woven on a David 2 , so sinking shed. So I tied up the blanks.
I don’t know what I am doing wrong.
Any ideas?
Hi Sue,
I looked closely at your photo, and have a weird question. Were you following the treadling from right to left or from left to right, as you read a page of English text? I ask because the direction of your zig zags in the second pattern (after the straight draw) is the opposite of my sample pattern, and your curves are going in the opposite direction as the example piece. Is that what you mean by "it starts looking very different"?
Also, did you thread from the front of the loom or from the back side of the loom?
The answer to these questions will help me to troubleshoot what is going on. Thanks!
I treadled right to left. Will double check that. I am wondering about that too. I wrote my cheat sheet horizontally, will try it vertically.
And I thread back to front.
Will change cheat sheet to vertical and start on Gamp 2. Don’t know why that would make a difference but maybe my translation.?
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this.
Did you get the strong solid lines of feather stitching? Or a more subtle blended line of both light and dark? It was hard to tell from your photograph. As long as you got those strong lines of feather stitching in Gamp 1, and get blended lines in Gamp 2, then the gamps are showing what they need to show.
Gamp 2 had more blended lines. Gamp 3 is looking good using your “cheat sheets”. Will see this afternoon if I get the curves correct in Gamp4. Will send photos after finishing.
Gamps 4 & 5 are also coming out correctly. So I am thinking it is my translation of tromp as written to the treadling. I will add a photo of my treadling diagram. If you could be so kind as to have a quick look at it, I would greatly appreciate that. Also, I am trying it out on Fibreworks.

I'm thinking that with the Wall of Troy you either followed the diagram bottom up, or started with your treadles at the right instead of at the left. Those are the only ways I can think of for you to get the pattern reversed.
As all the other gamps came out fine, I'd just chalk this one up to a learning experience wrapped in a mystery, and call it good to go. You still get the generalities of the shape, and you got it in all the other gamps, so I wouldn't worry. It's all about learning, and having fun at the loom!
Yes, I agree. Much of the tromp as writ looks like a mirror image. But some of the outlines are light instead of dark. As you say an experience wrapped in a mystery. But a challenge for me to figure it out. Neat seeing the differences using LD in place of DL or just using D. And the weaving is pleasing as well.
The fibreworks drawdown is a mirror image of my gamp 1 except the curve square. And the dark a light lines are reversed. One day it will dawn on me what I have done.
I am looking forward to the next lesson. Thought I should do the background work of making the gamps first.
Appreciate your input on this!
